This Must be the Place

We have a new home and a new studio.
Nearly everything I own is organized the way I always wanted it to be. The fabric is separated between knits and wovens and categorized by wackiness, sophistication and color.

I feel great, and am anticipating a summer's worth of work. I'm just beginning some custom work for a few friends that tickle me, and looking forward to collaborations with friends that tickle me even more. I am thinking about the New Land of Milk and Honey every day. A trip to Portland in mid-summer will initiate a Hooliganship costume adventure. Mainly, I just want to learn things and play sports all the time.

Junior

I have been mentoring a Brooklyn Park high school senior since January of this year.
Her name is Newhoen Luogon, and it is pronounced Noah Logan.
She is interested in fashion design and will pursue it academically and professionally at some point in her life.

Nehwoen came to my studio on a weekly basis and helped me with pattern-making, measuring, cutting, fitting and so on. We also spent time every week working on her final project for her Honors Mentor Connection course. Once, we played Rock Band II together in my old living room and that felt especially great.

She conceptualized a collection of clothing for men and women that was based on different types of folded fans. Her presentation consisted of a portfolio, poster board and a finished garment that she designed, constructed and screen-printed (expertly guided by Greg Hubacek).

Photos below show Nehwoen at her Honors Presentation Ceremony last month.
