Basket Case

I have been a desktop filer my entire life. I am notorious for making piles of papers and piling things on top of those piles. I found a pair of socks in my paper recycling basket a few days ago. So, to ring in the New Year, I tackled the task of moving all of the piles to a centrally located shelving unit. Thanks to my mother, I have a surplus of wire milk bottle baskets (can't get enough of these) which have proven to be as useful as ever, tucked into this shallow shelf. File folders fit nicely inside for a fine alternative to the traditional filing cabinet. On the top left of the shelf you can see a small peek of a Susan Johnson woven runner, a place where my handheld devices rest in comfort. I will have to take a better photograph of it sometime, the center has an ombre-like yarn with a rosepath design in the middle.

And so now, my desk is finally clear, save for a few bobs that I like to look at, tucked underneath my screen. And speaking of things I like to look at, how about the world through the viewfinder of my new digital SLR Canon EOS Rebel T2i camera? <----- WOW!!! I am completely smitten by this camera and I've hardly had a chance to use it yet. A real lens in real life! I admit, this piece of equipment has landed in the hands of an amateur (at best), but that's why we have New Years resolutions, right?

New!

Notice anything different? I'm doing a little New Years maintenance, you'll see some changes taking place but hopefully nothing that disrupts your ability to participate. One of my Christmas presents to myself this year is a new domain name for this blog, the other one is a file cabinet.

Dagmar Rousset

Dagmar Rousset is my first stockist! This is a shop located in Melbourne, Australia, owned by a wonderful woman named Julia. I cannot even begin to say what delightful experience this has been so far. I have been working with Julia since September, to stock her shop with over twenty sweater items and now I am sending stock every two weeks to keep the racks full. It's summer in Australia right now, which is part of the reason why the store looks like it's dripping with light and sunshine, but the open space, chipped rails, and white hangers make everything about this boutique just right. If you live in Melbourne, be sure to visit, the shop is located on Gertrude Street.

Of A Kind

Of A Kind is a new online retailer specializing in limited edition runs of products from a selection of designers. Each product is exclusive to the site and made in editions ranging from 5 pieces to 50. The site is based in New York and run by Claire Mazur and Erica Cerulo. My piece for the site is available starting today, and its...a hat! There are twenty all together and all the poms are different, of course. If you're still scrambling to buy some hand-made knitted goods for this holiday season, this is the hat for you! Or, if it's not the hat for you, I am still taking a few last minute orders for hats through my site. If you live anywhere near where I live, you will need as many hats as possible...you have to when there's 20+ inches of snow and it's 18 below.

Going

My entire ironing station was covered in sweaters yesterday. Piles of hats were teetering off the edge but held in place by a solid base of folded goods underneath. After a long trip to the post office I came home to just a few lonely poms holding down the fort. Luckily, it won't be too long until the whole place is filled up again...it is fully evident now that we are in the full swing of the holidays. My days and nights have been long, but I am happy and healthy, who could ask for more? I have already received one big gift this season, an opportunity to fulfill my project proposal for the 2011 Jerome Fiber Arts Grant through the Textile Center of Minnesota. With my grant funds I will be traveling to Miami next year to briefly step inside the studio practice of Jim Drain, and will return to Minnesota to make a body of work to be exhibited at the Textile Center next fall. During this period, I will also have the chance to buy some new equipment! YES! I've never been to Miami and this skin is already itching for some serious sunlight...

Baby Coney

There's a new hat in town, a very small one. Baby Coney has arrived! This little line-up is for a cool family looking to spice up their holiday portraits. I am in full support of this, just tickled! I was practically squealing when I finished making it...except, all I could imagine is making them smaller, and smaller...and smaller...

Things have been boisterous as usual around here. Yesterday there was a film crew here, who would have ever thought! I would like to offer a friendly reminder that I will be accepting orders for another week for the holiday, so if there is something you've been eyeing, get in there! Also, if you are local, please come by our studio this Saturday from 11-5 p.m. Eric is showing work old and new, seen and unseen, and it's all for sale! Do you need a framed portrait of Danny Glover? Maybe not, but you'll be happy to know that there are PILES of unique work to sift through. Send us a message if you don't know where to find us!
